The Good Egg
Life is like a good egg. You need to crack it open and make jammers.

The pumping curse
Society has gifted us with technology. Cellphones. iPads. Electricity. Refrigeration. It has also cursed us with breast pumps.
Ok, don't get me wrong. I see their purpose and the freedom they allow breastfeeding mothers. But I wonder if they didn't exist and if breastfeeding were truly esteemed that mothers would then be given more maternity leave - say six months instead of 6 weeks or 12 weeks.
Whatever the case, it sucks to pump at home so that your partner gives your baby the bottle only for him to scream and scream. Obviously your baby wants the breast. But for you to prepare for work and to prepare him for daycare you must give the bottle given now, especially now, before heading back to work. The end has begun. Or a new beginning you must call it.
And you long for simply times. Slower times.
And yet you respect yourself and your profession. But you long for a world that cradles all breastfeeding mothers and their infants. That cradles you.
And you cry.

Bras bras bras
(damn internet! Ate my first post... Here's an abbreviated version)
Weight up - weight down - pregnancy - nursing
Its seems a woman needs a wardrobe of bras. If the options are not overwhelming then the cost is. And who has the time to figure out nursing bras!
First it's all about the fit. Check out this link for a laugh. But be careful who's behind you! ;)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADE6xnFg1a4&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Ok now you know how to be sized- wink, wink - questions like brands, number of bras, belly coverage are what you are wondering.
We all love our bellies but whether it is for warmth or belly privacy sometimes you gotta cover. Popular options are nursing tanks at target, glamourmom tops and tanks or belly bands. I chose the belly band for their multi tasking of holding up snug pants. That and you can ditch them if the belly needs to breath.
Bras. Bravado, a very popular choice. It "grows" with you and is super comfy. For a more sexy take try Nummies or HOTmilk. Oh and zulily.com has sweet deals on these bras. (mention me if you sign up!)
Try to get three bras if possible. It's the wear, wash and dry thinking.
And avoid underwire. It can cause mastitis. Though I have one and fingers crossed no issues so far.
One last thing buy a nursing bra before baby comes. Get a medela small, medium or large. You will live in it and it will grow legs. But as it walks away you will know it's time to search the internet for your new sexy nursing bra. This happens at about 2 weeks after birth when your milk is in and you realize you need to wear more than one outfit.
Happy bra shopping!

Apple pie
My plan this past weekend-: make tarte tatin. French upside down pie.
Life happened instead.
Or better said, planting five fruit trees (including a persimmons) and attending a pruning class happened.
So. . . tonight Luke and I made apple pie.
Much simpler than fancy smancy tarte tatin that requires the flour, salt and sugar to chill for at least two hours and then the dough to head back into the refrig for another twenty - this all before touching the apples.
By the way I love peeling apples!

Winter weather, no Florida Fun
Sadness.
My Florida trip is officially canceled. The conference and with it the flight are no more. Ugh to winter weather.
This means no warm weather vacation for Luke and me. Ironically Luke still has a ticket, and we're paying for two nights at the Old Pineapple Inn. Anyone in Orlando who needs a weekend getaway?
And yet, given FEMA is literally shoveling out the Midwest, I guess it could be worse!!
Here are safe and warm wishes to all affected by the weather.

a Fig tree
a Fig. warm succulent fruit. sensual plant.
i've Always wanted a fig tree. growing Up in the tropics I plucked figs off the tree and plopped them in my mouth with glee. the Same applied to pomegranates fresh off the tree except they painstakingly required extractly each ruby seed. naive To the splendor I experienced I took it for granted.
now Years wiser, or just years older (I'm not sure which), I have a fig tree. my Own. well As much as you can "own" nature. it's Planted behind my raised garden beds in the Northwest corner of my yard, aka sun light central.
